Rethinking Data Storytelling for the AI Era

AI can now produce a dashboard, a summary, or a first-draft presentation in seconds, but it can't decide what your organization should do next. That gap is a big constraint on analytics ROI at large enterprises: more outputs, same struggle to drive decisions. In this session, IIA Expert Travis Grunewald reframes data storytelling as a leadership discipline that goes beyond slide design alone. Drawing on experience leading analytics, data science, and pricing teams at H&R Block, Hallmark, and Deluxe and now advising organizations as VP of AI and analytics at Solvenna, he brings a practical perspective on turning analysis into action inside large and small organizations.

He'll show D&A leaders how to move their teams from producing more analysis to producing better decisions, and where AI genuinely accelerates that work versus where human judgment still has to own it.

In this session you’ll learn:

  • A simple framework for decision-ready communication and structure your analysts can use to turn dashboards or analysis into a story an executive can act on.
  • Where AI helps, and where it can't and drawing a clear line between the parts of storytelling AI can accelerate and the parts that remain squarely a leader's job.
  • Practical ways to build data storytelling into how analytical work is scoped, reviewed, and presented across your team, shifting a data organization's default ratio from 90% analysis and 10% storytelling toward a mix that changes what leadership decides.
